Steel Weight Calculator
Calculate steel weight from section size, length and quantity. Round bar uses the circular area and a density of 7850 kg/m³, the basis of standard reinforcement weight tables.
This runs entirely in your browser. Nothing you type is sent to a server.
How to calculate steel weight
- 1Choose a shape. Round bar covers reinforcement and other circular bars.
- 2Enter the section sizes in millimetres, then the length and how many pieces.
- 3Read kilograms per metre and the total. Plate is weighed per sheet instead of per metre.
Questions
Which density is used?
7850 kilograms per cubic metre. A 12 mm round bar is 0.888 kg per metre, and a 16 mm bar is 1.578 kg per metre. The familiar d²/162 table is the same density, rounded.
Does this include laps and bends?
No. The length you enter is the length that is weighed. Add lap length, hooks and cutting waste yourself, or use the rebar estimator for a spaced layout.
