How to calculate a percentage
- 1Choose what you want: a portion, a share, a change, or a number increased or decreased by a percent.

- 3Use the change mode for before-and-after figures. A fall is shown as a negative percent.
Questions
How is percentage change calculated?
It is (new − original) ÷ original × 100. If the original value is zero, the change is undefined and the tool says so.
What is the difference between change and difference?
Change uses the first number as the baseline. Difference compares the gap with the average of the two numbers, which is useful when neither value is the starting point.
